Sandwich Student Scheme
If you’re an undergraduate, our Sandwich Student Scheme is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience and work at the House of Commons. It will give you a unique insight into governance, and the running of Parliament in general.
To be eligible, you must either:
- be enrolled on a four-year degree course where you complete the placement in your third year
- be in a degree that allows you to complete a sandwich placement for the full duration of the placement
Please note, we have limited placements for students and these will be advertised ad hoc via the House of Commons Careers Portal if they become available.

To sign up, register or log in to your account on our careers portal.
Once logged into the portal:
- click on your name in the top right-hand side
- from the drop-down list, select 'Alert Centre'
- to set up a new alert, click on 'Create New Alert' for 'External Opportunities'.
On this page, you’ll be able to create job alerts for any roles you are interested in. To get alerts on all new Sandwich Placements we recommend you create a broad alert by only selecting these options:
