Inclusion and Diversity
Our community is growing to reflect modern society. We’re removing barriers, increasing inclusion, and we’re nurturing diversity.
We’ve come a long way, but there’s more we want to do. Not least, we want to work with more people who are often under-represented in our leadership and teams. That starts with making sure the House of Commons feels like a welcoming place to work. Somewhere we’re all respected and heard.
Here, your experiences and expertise will be given the platform they deserve, while you do the work that matters.
"We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and communities.
We want to build an environment where everyone feels welcome and able to be themselves. We want to reflect the diversity of our nation. And we want to attract more people from underrepresented groups.
That’s why our focus is on better support and flexibility, accessibility and more inclusive ways of working. We’re a Disability Confident Employer, and we believe in equality for all. So, we provide everyone with the encouragement and opportunity to thrive – including you.
Our culture is based on our Values – being Inclusive, Courageous, Trusted and Collaborative. These values, along with our Behaviour Code, drive an inclusive culture in our workplace.
Our work in inclusion and diversity focuses on improving progression for under-represented groups, improving accessibility, and fostering inclusive environments.
Whoever you are, whatever your background, I hope you will consider applying for a job here."
Tom Goldsmith, Clerk of the House
We’re nurturing our networks
We want our colleagues to feel supported and listened to. Whether you’re part of the House of Commons, the House of Lords or the Parliamentary Digital Service, our Workplace Equality Networks (WENs) are open to you.
These six networks were created to provide an open forum for colleagues from all backgrounds to come together. They regularly host events, networking opportunities and awareness-raising activities. Crucially, they amplify the voices of WEN members across Parliament.
Armed Forces and Veterans Scheme
We welcome reservists, armed forces veterans (including the wounded, injured and sick), as well as cadet instructors, and military spouses and partners. Find out more about our Armed Forces and Veterans Scheme.
