"I have recently completed a Level 7 Senior Leader Apprenticeship Programme, run by the University of Exeter Business School.

When I was encouraged to sign up to this programme, I was working at the Strategic Estates Portfolio Management Office, and I started my apprenticeship in April 2022. Now, I work as the Head of Project Delivery for the Centre of Excellence and Profession.

My role is part of the Enterprise Portfolio Management Office, which provides support to both the House of Commons and the House of Lords, and sits under the Finance, Portfolio & Performance team. Here, my job is to build, develop and lead a strong community of practice for around 400 project delivery professionals at Parliament.

I work closely with this community to organise networking and learning events. I bring them together to share knowledge, encourage learning and champion professional growth and development. I’m introducing some key initiatives and activities to promote capability and support our senior project leaders.

I have enjoyed my apprenticeship because it has enabled me to become more aware, confident and reflective of my leadership capabilities and challenges. Plus, I get to learn from colleagues from different sectors and backgrounds.

My apprenticeship has allowed me to explore areas that I need to develop. I’m learning lessons from different situations, getting support from mentors, and putting them into practice in my current role.

As well as gaining a postgraduate diploma I have also completed additional modules to complete an MBA qualification. I hope this will equip me with the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to thrive as a senior leader.

I would like to use all the learning and experience I’ve acquired through this programme to support myself, my team, and Parliament in achieving its aims and goals."

Algy is making Parliament happen and so could you.
