COVID-19 proceedings: Debates
Under the temporary arrangements in place during the Covid-19 pandemic, MPs could participate either physically or remotely in most types of debates in the House of Commons Chamber.
These included
- Debates on a motion in the name of a government minister;
- Legislation;
- Private Business;
- Debates on motions from the Committee of Selection (relating to select committee membership);
- Adjournment debates.
In all cases, MPs had to apply to speak in debates in advance and were only able to participate if their name was published on the relevant call lists.
Call lists were produced each day and could be found in Commons Business Papers.
On 25 February 2021 the House of Commons agreed to resume Westminster Hall debates from Monday 8 March 2021. Westminster Hall debates took place in a committee room rather than the Grand Committee Room off Westminster Hall. MPs could participate either physically or virtually.
