Clocks

Records show that in 1851 Mr Dutton of 146 Fleet Street confirmed an order for twenty clocks. Designed by Pugin, Mr Dutton provided the working parts, while it is thought John Webb created the wooden cases and Hardman & Co the dial.

There are 40 clocks in the Palace of Westminster designed by Pugin. Some are larger than others and they have either “Sic Omnia” or “Tempus Fugit” carved beneath the dial.

The clocks are all currently in use in high profile areas, committee rooms, dining rooms and other areas with some public access throughout the Palace.
