Chairs, Chairs, Chairs

There are almost 6,000 historic chairs in the Palace of Westminster ranging from quite plain items to ornate, gilded thrones. All but one of these chairs are in use, some of them every day. Many of the chairs were designed by A.W.N Pugin in the 1840s in the gothic revival style. Sir Giles Gilbert Scott also designed chairs for the House of Commons in the late 1940s to replace the furniture which was destroyed in the Second World War bombings.
