The medal in the Parliamentary collection

The Albert Medal, First Class, featured here was awarded in January 1885 to Police Constable William Cole of the Metropolitan Police Force for his actions while on duty in the Palace of Westminster.

Cole's Albert Medal resurfaced at a Sotheby's auction in February 1914 where it was purchased for £75, but it is not presently known how it came into the House of Commons' collection.

The inscription on the medal reads 'For gallantry in saving life on land'
