The medal in the Parliamentary collection

An octagonal silver medal, the obverse bearing the uncrowned profile head of King George VI, and the reverse showing a view of the Royal Research Ship 'Disovery' with a man handling sledge party in the foreground. The medal is suspended from a scroll suspender, above which is attached a silver bar bearing the word 'Antarctic 1945'.  The ribbon is plain white.
