Parliament’s Vision and Purpose for Heritage and Library Collections

UK Parliament is home to six unique collections. They are the Parliamentary Archives, the Parliamentary Art Collection, the Historic Furniture and Decorative Arts Collection, the Architectural Fabric Collection, the House of Lords Library and the House of Commons Library.

These are working collections, that serve the House of Commons and the House of Lords, reflecting and capturing their history, memory and purpose. The collections are also available to the public, and help to explain the functions and processes of Parliament from the ceremonial to the day-to day.

Alongside managing these diverse and varied collections at UK Parliament, we are committed to further amplifying the collections as a part of our national identity and as means to bridge places, people and ideas.

To support our aims, UK Parliament has developed a strategic vision for our Collections. The report shared here outlines our vision and purpose, and shares a set of guiding principles and recommendations for our work.
