Big Ben to ring for Remembrance Sunday

Big Ben will strike 11 times to mark the start of the Two Minutes of Silence at 11am on Remembrance Sunday, 14 November 2021.
Big Ben will be reconnected so that it can be rung on Remembrance Sunday. Due to the period of inactivity since New Year’s Eve 2020, Big Ben must be re-connected in advance in order to ensure that it will chime at exactly 11am on the Sunday - joining bells across the country and worldwide to commemorate those that lost their lives in the two world wars and later conflicts.
To make sure everything works, Parliament’s teams will be testing the bell next week. With the Elizabeth Tower conservation project due to complete next year, this will be one of the last times that Big Ben will be rung using the temporary striking mechanism, which has powered the hammer used to strike the bell during the restoration of the Tower and clock mechanism.
Early in 2022, all the bells – including Big Ben itself – will be reconnected to the original Victorian clock mechanism and will ring out across Westminster once again.
