Women at Stephen's Chapel 1292 - 1548

Women helped directly to create the chapel building and maintain it.

It's easy to assume that since the medieval Catholic Church was full of male priests, St Stephen's was an institution without contact with women. Women worshipped at St Stephen's, expressed concern for the souls of dead relatives, and advanced the careers of deans and canons.

They may have been in the minority, but it is still well worth looking at the range of possibilities for women, particularly widows, within medieval England.
