St Stephen's Project Virtual Model
From 2013 to 2016 a team of researchers at the University of York, in collaboration with the History of Parliament Trust, the Institute for Historical Research and the Palace of Westminster worked on St Stephen's Chapel from the middle ages through to WW2.
We were interested in how the chapel was built, how it was expanded by Sir Christopher Wren and James Wyatt in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, and how Charles Barry reimagined it as St Stephen's Hall in the 1840s. We were also interested in how the buildings were used and experienced by visitors and residents of the palace, whether as a medieval chapel or as the House of Commons.
We then put that research into a digital model, so that you can get a sense of what it was like to visit the old Palace of Westminster.
