Wilkes in prison

This is a petition that Wilkes sent to the House of Lords in December 1768 in an unsuccessful attempt to challenge his convictions of 1764.  The petition ignited a renewed attempt to expel him from the House of Commons to which he had been elected in March 1768. In the petition, Wilkes makes reference to his status as a prisoner of the King's Bench Prison and his willingness to attend the House of Lords to plead his case, accompanied by the Marshall of the Prison.
