Accommodation

The Lords had to be adapted to meet the needs of new women peers. A ‘peeresses retiring room' was decorated and furnished in 1958.

By 1971 there were 46 women peers and facilities were inadequate. A letter from the Yeoman Usher of the Black Rod reveals that two baths and two lavatories were urgently required and there was considerable pressure for this work to be done.
