Legislative attempts in the 1920s

In the aftermath of the Lady Rhondda case, various Bills were introduced into the Lords as private members' Bills in 1924, 1925, 1926, 1927 and 1928. These Bills would have allowed hereditary women peers in their own right to sit in the House of Lords.

They were introduced in the House of Lords by Viscount Astor, the husband of Nancy Astor. None proceeded.
