Roy Jenkins (1920-2003)

Roy Jenkins was elected as a Labour MP in 1948 and after a long ministerial career and a term as President of the European Commission he became a life peer in 1987.

In the Lords he was prominent as the Leader of the Liberal Democrat peers but also had a successful career as a writer, producing a number of acclaimed biographies and serving as President of the Royal Society of Literature.
