Herbert Henry Asquith (1852-1928)

Deep disagreement between Liberals and Conservatives over the extent of reform resulted in constitutional crisis and two general elections in 1910.

Out of this prolonged conflict emerged the Government's Parliament Act of 1911, but only the Prime Minister, Herbert Henry Asquith's threat to create several hundred Liberal peers ensured its passage through the Lords.
