Sir Robert John Graham Boothby, Lord Boothby of Buchan and Rattray Head (1900-1986)

Lord Boothby was introduced in the House of Lords on 12 November 1958. He had been a Conservative MP between 1924 and 1958 and parliamentary private secretary to Winston Churchill from 1926 to 1929.

A junior minister in the Ministry of Food during the Second World War, he later worked for a united Europe as British delegate to the consultative assembly of the Council of Europe.

He was also vice-chairman on the councils committee on economic affairs, rector of St. Andrew's university and chairman of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
