Lloyd George's Budget Notes
The People's Budget was introduced to Parliament on 29 April 1909. Lloyd George began his speech at 3PM to a packed House of Commons giving a five hour oration with only a half hour adjournment when he was provided a cup of beef tea to alleviate any fatigue. He declared this his ‘war budget' with commitments to social reform as abiding criteria for legislation.
For a Budget speech of over four hour's duration, notes were imperative. On this page, notes are made concerning land tax, duty on petrol and settlement on estate duty, though these three subjects did not run concurrently in his oration.
