Letter from May Howard Jewill-Rogers, Official Typist to Parliament

Letter to the Serjeant at Arms from May Howard Jewill-Rogers (née Ashworth) for Ashworth & Co, 18 Oct 1920, regarding price rises since the war 

May Ashworth was born in Cumberland in 1863. She founded Ashworth & Co in 1888 and won the contract to provide official typing, shorthand and translation services to Parliament in 1895. In 1900 she married William Paull Jewill-Rogers; they divorced in 1921. May ran Ashworth & Co to her death in 1928, and the company continued to work in Parliament for many years after that.
