An Act for the Attainder of Henry Norries

Henry Norries was Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod from 1526 to 1536 and was also King Henry VIII’s trusted friend and ‘master of the stool’. These honours could not, however, save Norries who was tried and executed by the King for an alleged ‘intrigue with Anne Boleyn’. Norries is the only Black Rod to have been executed.

Three years later the King passed an Act for the restitution of Henry Norries, so his property was returned to his heirs.
