The Royal thrones, 1901

Following the death of Queen Victoria in 1901 and the accession of King Edward VII changes were made to the area around the throne in the House of Lords. The single throne was joined by a companion throne for Queen Alexandra.

Detailed descriptions of  the King's personal requirements for his first State Opening of Parliament may be found in Parliamentary Archives, LGC/5/16/1, including seating arrangements for the Royal family and changes to the fabric of the thrones.
