The State Opening of 1842

In this letter of 1842 the Home Secretary, Sir James Graham, gives notice to the Lord Great Chamberlain that Queen Victoria intends to open Parliament in person.

Following the death of Prince Albert in 1861 Queen Victoria attended the State Opening of Parliament less frequently, and when she did the Speech was delivered by the Lord Chancellor.
