Speaker's Office staff
The Speaker's Secretary, the Chaplain and the Trainbearer are three of the Speaker's closest officials.
They work closely with and support the Speaker in his or her duties, in addition to carrying out their own distinctive responsibilities in the House.
They are all seen together during the Speaker's procession from Speaker's House to the Commons' chamber – a ceremony performed every day that the House sits.
- Speaker's Trainbearer - Attends the Speaker and perhaps originated in more violent times when Speakers had need of bodyguards
- Speaker's Secretary - Acts as the right-hand man or woman to the Speaker and is an ancient office in its own right
- Speaker's Chaplain - Appointed by the Speaker, the Chaplain conducts daily prayers in the Commons and provides pastoral care to Members and staff
