Working at Parliament

Parliament relies on the work of thousands of members of staff. There is a wide variety of job roles across the House of Commons, House of Lords, and Parliamentary Digital Service (PDS) that contribute to the running of Parliament.

The House of Commons and House of Lords are separate employers and PDS works as a joint department serving both Houses.

Parliament welcomes applications from all qualified candidates and champions a diverse and inclusive workplace.

House of Commons

The House of Commons makes laws, holds the Government to account, and debates topical issues. The Commons relies on teams with varied skillsets to carry out its business. Applicants from diverse experiences and backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

House of Lords

The House of Lords shares the task of making laws and debating bills before they become laws. There is a variety of job roles that help the Lords carry out its work, from policy specialists to pastry chefs, and qualified applicants from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Parliamentary Digital Service (PDS)

PDS works as a joint department and helps the Commons and Lords with technology and online tools. They are transforming Parliament to become digital first. To achieve this, applicants from diverse experiences and backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Diversity and inclusion in Parliament

The House of Commons and House of Lords have established Workplace Equality Networks (WENs) that provide support, increase awareness and create an open forum for people from all backgrounds to come together to learn and share their experiences.  The WENs are open to all employees who support and champion the missions and objectives of the network.

ParliGENDER: in support of gender equality. The aim is to achieve gender equality across Parliament.     

ParliREACH: in support of increasing awareness and appreciation of race, ethnicity and cultural heritage in Parliament.     

ParliOUT: in support of LGBT+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersexual, and questioning) people in Parliament.     

ParliON: in support of promoting equality of opportunity across Parliament and working to raise awareness of issues around socio-economic inclusion. 

ParliCare: in support of raising awareness of and support for all staff within Parliament with caring needs.
