Apprenticeships: Our People

It’s amazing to say that I left school with a few GCSEs, but by being determined I am now on the path to becoming a qualified accountant. I have never felt more supported with my studies; the balance if work/studying is perfect.

I decided to make a career change that would help the business in a more impactful way. This led to my enquiring to take part in the Senior Leadership PG Diploma (with MBA top up) apprenticeship. Obtaining an MBA via the apprenticeship is a significant career milestone for myself and for the business as it brings talent, hard work and opportunity together. I also recognise that being of BAME Origin, Dyslexic and from lower socio economic background achieving this qualification would provide something of a role model for others within parliament from my background.

I am doing a blended-learning apprenticeship studying ACCA. The Professional qualification is important if I want to move up the career ladder. It's more valuable then a university degree as you are able to apply your knowledge to the real world at the same time.

I started at the House of Commons as a Financial accountant, prior to that I spent 12 years in the Army and one year at a chartered accounts practice. I recently finished AAT level 4 and wanted to maintain momentum, embarking on Accountancy Professional level 7 ACCA.The House was offering to pay and give me the time to complete a widely recognised accounting qualification, for me it was a no brainer!
