Krishna Shah: Finance Business Partner

""

I am doing a blended-learning apprenticeship studying ACCA. The Professional qualification is important if I want to move up the career ladder.

It's more valuable then a university degree as you're able to apply your knowledge to the real world at the same time

What is your job role and what do you love most about it?

Currently I am a Finance Business Partner but started as an Assistant Finance Business Partner on the apprenticeship scheme. I love the variety of work the role provides. It’s not just accounting but also includes business planning, risk and performance management. Everyday is always interesting.

How did you start your career in House of Commons?

I started in the Accounts Receivable team in Finance, Portfolio and Performance as an accounts officer back in 2018 following a career move from the retail industry.

What apprenticeship are you doing and why did you decide to do it?

I am doing a blended-learning apprenticeship studying ACCA. The professional qualification is important if I want to move up the career ladder as it provides all the key knowledge I need to know. After some experience as an accounts officer, I realised that I really enjoyed the work I was doing and wanted to learn more.

Where do you see this apprenticeship getting you in the future?

Hopefully it will only take me upwards from here. Possibly an MD role at a late stage in my career, who knows.

What advice would you give to someone considering an apprenticeship?

It is completely worth doing and personally feel it is more valuable than a university degree as you are able to apply your knowledge to the real world at the same time. Make sure you allocate the time to study and make the most of the opportunities that come your way.

If you had to use one sentence to describe your apprenticeship so far what would it be?

An amazing experience with no regrets whatsoever.
