Hybrid Bills in current and previous sessions
A Bill with characteristics of both a Public Bill and a Private Bill is called a Hybrid bill. Such Bills are examined in Parliament by a combination of both Public Bill and Private Bill procedures.
Hybrid Bills before Parliament
HS2 is widely anticipated to involve a Hybrid Bill.
A paving Bill on HS2 is currently before Parliament. The paving bill is a Public Bill (not hybrid) designed to permit preliminary spending on HS2.
Any Hybrid Bill would follow the procedure outlined in the Research Briefing Paper: Hybrid Bills
In anticipation of an HS2 Hybrid Bill, Hybrid Bill Standing Order procedure has been changed in two areas:
- first, to would allow for electronic deposition of documents on HS2 (as a large amount of documentation is expected)
- secondly to provide for appointment of an assessor to report on and summarise comments received on environmental aspects of HS2.

The Select Committee on the Crossrail Bill was nominated by the House of Commons on 5 December 2005. The Committee met from 13 December 2005 until 18 October 2007:

Crossrail Bill Committee (House of Commons)
The Crossrail Bill was committed to a Public Bill Committee on 8 November 2007. The Committee met on 22 and 27 November and reported the Bill, as amended, to the House.
