I have lived in the UK longer than I lived in Barbados, but I still keep close connections there and try to return every year. My family regularly comes over for a visit – and one year we even had Christmas dinner at the Barbados High Commissioner’s residence in London.

I see the Commonwealth as a family of nations that are similar - but each country has its own identity. We hold the Queen in high esteem as Head of State – and I was so pleased to meet her at a Buckingham Palace Garden Party.

Working in Parliament for 34 years, I have met so many people, including Joe Biden (when he was US Vice President), Nelson Mandela and Aung San Suu Kyi.
