I was born in Jamaica, and since I joined Parliament six years ago, I have worked in public-facing teams, from booking tours to select committees.

It is a great privilege being able to speak to people who think politics isn’t for them, to then get them involved and to show them just how important it is.

My feelings about the Commonwealth are complicated. While it’s really important for the Commonwealth to have collective discussions about its past - being part of a global network of countries where we can learn from each other and develop connections is important and valuable.

When this is done on an equal and collaborative basis, I think the Commonwealth has a bright future.
