Craig Whittaker MP - Australia
Craig Whittaker MP
MP for Calder Valley
I was born in Lancashire, but when I was five my family emigrated to Australia as ‘£10 POMS’ - a scheme that encouraged Brits to start a new life in Australia and New Zealand.
I grew up there but was also educated for a short time in New Zealand, where we moved for my father’s job in 1976.
I was 21 when I came to the UK for a holiday, met my wife, decided to stay and was elected as an MP in 2010.
For me, the Commonwealth is a great family of friends who share a common interest and shared history.
