My Christian faith is central and foundational to all that I do. Being loved and accepted by God because of His love demonstrated through Jesus Christ motivates me to love and serve others, knowing that I do so in His strength, not my own. Jesus taught that the two greatest commandments are to love God and to love your neighbour, and it is the second of these that inspired me to work in politics and Parliament. Politics is a fantastic way to love your neighbour, both by helping people directly but also by working towards the common good for all through policy and legislation. The God I worship is a God of justice, who cares for the poor, the marginalised and the oppressed, and calls His followers to do the same, and it is so exciting to get to play a part in this through working in Parliament. Through everything I do, I seek to serve and honour God, and this affects the attitude I have to my work, and how I interact with other people. Working in Parliament provides an amazing opportunity to meet and work with a diverse range of people, and I seek to treat each person as Jesus would – as a much-loved person made in God’s image. My faith also provides me with hope and stability through the ups and downs of life, and has been an invaluable source of strength and peace throughout the challenges of the pandemic, as I know that God is ultimately in control and that I can entrust my life to Him.
