My core belief that 'Jesus Christ is Lord' is central to who I am and everything I do, including why I work in Parliament. I believe Jesus's Lordship extends to every sphere of life including politics, so through my work I am seeking to represent him, honour him and bring him glory. One of the things that Jesus taught was to 'love our neighbours' and in the parable of the Good Samaritan we see that a neighbour can be defined very broadly, so I am committed to wanting to serve others and the common good through my work. Because Jesus was willing to lay down his life for me at the cross, showing me forgiveness and compassion, I too seek to demonstrate a similar grace to others in the way that I treat them and through my conversations. It’s not always easy and I don't always get this right, and I definitely find it liberating to remember that the Christian faith is not about me having to earn my approval with God, but knowing that he died to save me for a relationship with him.
