Welcome from Mr Speaker

"At its best, sport brings people, communities, and nations together. It’s a chance for people to get active in a way that’s good for the mind and the body, and it’s often social, a chance for fans to rally around their team and celebrate successes and commiserate over losses together.

"When I’m not doing the day job – which as Speaker in the chamber is akin to being a referee - you will find me cheering on Warrington Wolves rugby league team, Bolton Wanderers FC and Lancashire County Cricket Club.

"I am excited that we have the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games to look forward to, and I can foresee a thrilling summer of sport. I am pleased to share so many of your stories about what sport means to you, and I hope that this exhibition inspires you to share in the fun and joy that sport and activity can bring to all our lives."

Rt Hon Sir Lindsay Hoyle MP, Speaker of the House of Commons
