"I've played football since I was 8. There may have been some dad encouragement – I had 4 sisters by then. I was never skillful, but aggressive determination got me quite far in amateur leagues. I made some amazing friends and broke my nose (twice). Our highlight was playing West Ham in the FA cup although (shamefully) I was sent off … Since having two girls I have less time, but still play the odd game, loving it just as much if feeling stiffer afterwards. It was a joy to cheer on my youngest’s first match last week."
