What the administration does
House of Lords Administration
The main aim of the administration is to support and strengthen the House and its members in carrying out their parliamentary functions, by:
- delivering excellent services enabling members to fulfil their parliamentary duties
- being an inclusive, diverse and professional workforce, delivering a wide range of services
- supporting greater public understanding of the House and its work and providing services that are value for public money
- making Parliament safer, more secure, and sustainable.
House of Lords Administration strategy 2025-30
The House of Lords Administration strategy sets out the purpose and priorities of the Administration from 2025 to 2030.
House of Lords Commission, Management Board and Clerk of the Parliaments
Together the Commission, Management Board and the Clerk of the Parliaments provide corporate leadership for the House of Lords.
House of Lords Commission
The House of Lords Commission provides high-level strategic and political direction for the House of Lords administration on behalf of the House.
The Commission is supported by the Finance Committee and the Services Committee.
Management Board
The Management Board is the body responsible for decisions about the delivery of services in the House of Lords. The directors of the main functions in the House of Lords make up the Management Board.
Clerk of the Parliaments
As chair of the Management Board, Accounting Officer, Corporate Officer, as well the House's chief procedural adviser, the Clerk of the Parliaments heads the administration in the House of Lords – carrying out the responsibilities of the chief executive of the House.
