About the Freedom of Information Act
The Freedom of Information Act 2000 gives the public general rights of access to information held by public authorities (and those providing services for them).
The House of Lords is a public authority under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. Members of the House of Lords are not ‘public authorities'.
The act requires public authorities to adopt and maintain their own ‘publication schemes', which outline the types of information they publish, the forms in which they are published and details of any costs.

About the Environmental Information Regulations 2004
The Environmental Information Regulations 2004 make provision for the release of environmental information by public authorities and for public authorities to make environmental information available in response to a request. The regulations have been aligned with the Freedom of Information Act as much as possible.
