Using the River Room

Use of the River Room is provided at the Lord Speaker's discretion. It is reserved primarily for functions on behalf of UK-registered charities and sponsored by a member of the House. The Room may also be used for cross-party parliamentary events, but not for meetings of All Party Groups. Private parties for public relations, advertising or commercial purposes are not permitted.

Information to support planning River Room events includes:

  • guidelines on the eligibility of functions;
  • attendance of the Lord Speaker;
  • photography and music;
  • access; and
  • catering.

The guidelines equate to terms and conditions that functions in the River Room must follow.

Initial enquiries about booking the River Room should be made to riverroom@parliament.uk. Confirmation of a booking can only be made once a letter or email requesting use of the Room has been received by the Lord Speaker's office from the sponsoring member and the Lord Speaker has agreed to the request.

Details of all events are published quarterly.
