Ministers face Peers over STEM subjects
Immigration Minister Damian Green MP and Minister for Universities and Science David Willetts MP will next week give evidence to the House of Lords Science and Technology Committee as part of their inquiry into the state of higher education in the STEM (Science, Technology Engineering and Maths) subjects.
The Committee will ask Damian Green and Carolyn Bartlett, an official from the Student Migration Policy Team at the Home Office, about concerns that negative perceptions of the government's immigration policies are deterring the brightest and the best overseas students from studying in the UK.
David Willetts will be questioned on what the Government is doing to ensure the quality of STEM courses is maintained in light of proposals for reforms of higher education. The session will also cover how industry can be better involved to ensure STEM graduates have the appropriate skills and training to enter the workplace.
The evidence sessions will start at 3.25pm on Tuesday 17 April in Committee Room 3 of the House of Lords. The full details are:
