What is the impact of development aid?

The Independent Commission for Aid Impact (ICAI) will give evidence to the House of Lords Economic Affairs Committee on Tuesday 17 January about the economics of development aid.

Graham Ward, Chief Commissioner for the ICAI, will face questions from the Committee about the Commission's role and how it monitors effectiveness and value for money in aid programmes.

Other questions likely to be asked include:

  • Whether development aid helps to promote sustainable economic growth in recipient countries
  • How far can  DFID ensure  that its budget support to developing countries is well spent
  • DFIDs ability to identify and address fraud risks
  • Will cuts in  DFIDs administrative budget impair its ability to  check for value for money in its spending programmes

The evidence session will take place at 3.35pm, Tuesday 17 January in Committee Room 1 of the House of Lords and can be watched live at www.parliamentlive.tv.

More information about the Economic Affairs Committee and its inquiry into the economics of development aid can be found at its website.
