Lords quiz migrant and refugee organisations


Representatives  from refugee and migrant organisations will appear before the Lords Home Affairs, Health and Education EU Sub-Committee on Wednesday 4 July, as part of their inquiry into the EU's Global Approach to Migration and Mobility (GAMM).  

The Committee will be hearing from:

  • Helen Hibberd from the Hackney Migrant Centre;
  • Rebecca Crerar from the Suffolk Refugee Support Forum; and
  • Juan Camilo Cock, Migrants' Rights Network.

The Committee are likely to quiz the witnesses on issues such as:

  • improving the integration of migrants from both inside and outside the EU;
  • the challenges faced by migrants in the UK and whether they differ depending on whether they are from the EU or not;
  • the motivation behind migrants coming to the UK and why they choose here above many other EU Member States; and
  • any changes to migration trends that may have occurred since the GAMM was first launched in 2005.

The evidence session will take place on Wednesday 4 July at 11.00am in Committee Room 3 and will be webcast live at www.parliamentlive.tv.

The evidence session is also open to the public. Journalists wishing to attend should go to Parliament's Cromwell Green Entrance and should allow time for security screening.
