New Lords Committee quizzes adoption officials
The new House of Lords Select Committee on Adoption Legislation start their inquiry on Tuesday 26 June, by speaking to representatives from the Department for Education.
The Committee, who will be examining Adoption Legislation in England and Wales, will hear from:
- Shirley Trundle, Director of Families Group;
- Anne Crombie, Deputy Director for Adoption Reform; and
- Sandra Walker, Deputy Director of the Children's Services and Family Law team in the Legal Advisers Office.
Questions that the Department for Education officials could be asked include:
- Is there any reason to be concerned about the falling number of adoptions?
- Is there a problem recruiting possible adopters from particular ethnic groups? If so, why and what can be done to change this?
- Is it realistic to place a six-month time limit on care proceedings?
- What are the alternatives to adoption?
The evidence session will take place on Tuesday 26 June at 10.15am in Committee Room 3A of the House of Lords and will be webcast live at www.parliamentlive.tv.
The evidence session is also open to the public. Journalists wishing to attend should go to Parliament's Cromwell Green Entrance and should allow time for security screening.
