Lords Science Committee to quiz Health Minister on Olympic legacy in sports medicine
The House of Lords Science and Technology Committee will tomorrow quiz Anne Milton MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the Department of Health on sports and exercise science and medicine, and how the Olympic games can be harnessed to improve public health.
The Committee will ask Ms Milton for details on what the Department of Health does, along with other departments, to promote a sports and health agenda, and what plans it has to use the National Centre for Sport and Exercise Medicine to improve public health. The Government has invested £30m in the new Centre, which was a commitment of the London 2012 bid to host the games. The Committee will also ask what more can be done to ensure that the results of sports and exercise science research, and sports and exercise medicine, are translated into treatments through the NHS and public health interventions.
Also giving evidence to the Committee tomorrow will be The Institute of Sports and Exercise Medicine, UK Sport, the Medical Research Council and Arthritis Research UK.
The evidence sessions will start 10:40am on Tuesday 19 June in Committee Room 4 of the House of Lords.
