A sweet start
Sheila Page, Senior Research Associate and Anna Locke, Head of Agricultural Development and Policy at the Overseas Development Institute and John Adams, Senior Research Economist at LMC International, will appear before the House of Lords Agriculture, Fisheries, Environment and Energy EU Sub-Committee, in the first evidence session of their short follow-up inquiry into the EU Sugar Regime.
Ms Page, Ms Locke and Mr Adams are likely to face questions on issues such as:
- the effectiveness of measures that have been put in place to mitigate the effect of the 2006 reform on African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP)/ Least Developed countries (LDC);
- how the reform of the EU regime could be managed to help the industry in ACP and LDC countries to adjust to the impact of a more liberal sugar market;
- the role that EU and Member State development policies have; and
- what changes should be made to Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) reforms in order to improve the coherence between the CAP and development.
The evidence session will take place on Wednesday 13 June at 11am in Committee Room 3A of the House of Lords and will be webcast live at www.parliamentlive.tv.
The evidence session is also open to the public. Journalists wishing to attend should go to Parliament's Cromwell Green Entrance and should allow time for security screening.
