Peers hear from Tate and Lyle and Nestle on EU's Sugar Regime
Ian Bacon, President of Tate and Lyle Sugars, will be quizzed by the House of Lords Agriculture, Fisheries, Environment and Energy EU Sub-Committee on Wednesday 27 June, in the third evidence session of their follow-up inquiry into the EU Sugar Regime.
Beforehand, at 11am, the Committee will hear from:
- Tim Innocent, Chair of UK Industrial Sugar Users Group (UKISUG) and Head of Purchasing (Direct Materials) at Nestlé; and
- Dominic Goudie, Trade Policy Executive, UKISUG.
At 11.30, Mr Bacon will be joined by Gerald Mason, Vice President of Tate and Lyle Sugar's EU Affairs and Strategy.
The witnesses are likely to face questions on issues including:
- UKISUG's ideas on how the EU might resolve tensions between sugar for food and for non-food purposes;
- whether the 2005 reforms improved the sugar market;
- market prospects, including the future of 850 jobs at Tate and Lyle Sugars' plant in East London; and
- whether industrial users of sugar are assured of a fair price for refined cane sugar from Tate and Lyle Sugars.
The evidence session will take place on Wednesday 27 June at 11am in Committee Room 3A of the House of Lords and will be webcast live at www.parliamentlive.tv.
