Swedish Migration Minister to be quizzed by peers

Tobias Billström, Swedish Minister for Migration and Asylum Policy, will speak to  the Lords Home Affairs, Health and Education EU Sub-Committee on Wednesday 27 June, as part of their inquiry into the EU's Global Approach to Migration and Mobility (GAMM).

Mr Billström has been a member of the Swedish Parliament since 2002.  He has also served as his party's spokesperson for migration and integration.

The Committee are likely to quiz Mr Billström on issues such as:

  • Sweden's labour migration policy reform and how it fits with EU policy;
  • what roles the EU and Member States should be in promoting development through circular migration policies;
  • how both short and long-term migration trends will be affected by the global economic and financial crisis; and
  • Sweden's approach to the integration of immigrants and multiculturalism and whether the EU has a role to play in this area.

The evidence session will take place on Wednesday 27 June at 11am in Committee Room 3 of the House of Lords and will be webcast live at www.parliamentlive.tv.

The evidence session is also open to the public. Journalists wishing to attend should go to Parliament's Cromwell Green Entrance and should allow time for security screening.
