European industry experts talk to Peers about superfast broadband

On Tuesday 27 March the House of Lords Communications Committee will hear from two experts in the European telecommunications field, in the second evidence session of their inquiry into superfast broadband.

At 3.30pm, the Committee will hear from Mr Lorne Mitchell, Managing Director of Objective Designers Limited. He has extensive experience of the European telecommunications and media industries and is a regular contributor to conferences and the public debate on telecoms and superfast broadband in the UK.

Following on, at 4.30pm, the Committee will hear from Mr Francesco Caio, Chief Executive of the Avio Group, who has previously worked as a consultant to the British and Italian governments on broadband implementation. In particular, he was the author of a report, published in 2008 by the then Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR), which looked at the next phase of broadband in the UK.

The Committee will be examining issues such as infrastructure, levels of speed capacity, stimulating demand versus superfast broadband provision and how the UK can learn from broadband infrastructure strategies in other countries.

The evidence sessions will begin at 3.30pm on Tuesday 27 March in Committee Room 2 of the House of Lords and will be webcast live at www.parliamentlive.tv.
