An Independent Scotland
Professor Gavin McCrone, a former Chief Economic Adviser to the Scottish Office, is to appear before the House of Lords Economic Affairs Committee on Tuesday 29 May. He will give evidence to the Committee's inquiry into the economic implications for the United Kingdom of an independent Scotland.
The Committee are likely to question Professor McCrone on issues such as:
- how the UK's expenditure on things like social security payments, health care and defence spending would be affected by Scottish independence;
- what currency a newly-independent might use and what the impact of that might be;
- whether an independent Scotland would introduce different corporation and personal taxes to the rest of the UK; and
- if Scotland gained the geographic share of the oil fields, whether it would run an overall trade and current account deficit or surplus.
The evidence session will start at 3.35pm, Tuesday 29 May in Committee Room 1 of the House of Lords.
The evidence session is also open to the public. Journalists wishing to attend should go to Parliament's Cromwell Green Entrance and shoud alow time for security screening.
