Business and trade organisations quizzed by Lords

On Thursday 22 November, the Lords Committee on Small and Medium-sized Enterprise (SME) Exports will question a number of witnesses from the food & drink and creative sectors. They will be telling the Committee about the challenges SMEs face in exporting their products.

 At 10.40am, in the first of two sessions, the Committee will hear from:

  • Jane Turton, Director of Business Development & Business Affairs at All 3 Media and member of Producers Alliance for Cinema and Television (PACT);
  • Richard Wilson, CEO of The Independent Games Developers Association (TIGA);
  • Patrick O'Luanaigh, CEO of nDreams and a director of TIGA; and
  • Paul Alger, Director of International Affairs at the UK Fashion and Textile Association.

They will be followed, at 11.40am, by:

  • Melanie Leech, Director General of the Food and Drink Federation;
  • Steve Barnes, Director of Economic and Commercial Services at the Food and Drink Federation; and
  • Philip Opie, Technical Director and Chairman of Bennett Opie Ltd.

The Committee will be exploring with the witnesses the main challenges they face when exporting in their sectors and how these differ from large organisations; how helpful UKTI are and what, if anything, they could do to improve their services; if the Olympics has boosted interest in their products and whether the Government bodies should be doing more to ride the wave of Britain's current high profile.

The evidence session will take place at 10.40am on Thursay 22 November in Committee Room 2 of the House of Lords and will be webcast live at www.parliamentlive.tv.

The evidence session is also open to the public. Journalists wishing to attend should go to Parliament's Cromwell Green Entrance and should allow time for security screening.
