Ex-Serious Fraud Office Director appears before Lords
The House of Lords Justice, Institutions and Consumer Protection EU Sub-Committee will quiz Rosalind Wright CB QC, as part of its inquiry into combating fraud and irregularities against the EU's finances.
Mrs Wright is a barrister and former Government regulatory lawyer with considerable experience of fraud and financial crime. She was the Director of the Serious Fraud Office from 1997-2003 and has been both member and Chairman of the OLAF Supervisory Committee (2005-2012).
The Committee will question Mrs Wright on a number of issues including:
- her view on the extent of fraud and irregularity against the EU's finances and whether, in her opinion, the UK authorities do enough to combat it;
- the effectiveness of OLAF and whether it needs greater powers to follow up on investigations after they have been handed over to Member State authorities; and
- whether there is a need for an European Public Prosecutor.
The evidence session will take place at 4.05pm on Wednesday 28 November in Committee Room 1 of the House of Lords and will be webcast live at www.parliamentlive.tv.
The evidence session is also open to the public. Journalists wishing to attend should go to Parliament's Cromwell Green Entrance and should allow time for security screening.
